Meet Rachel and Laura, two enterprising porn scholars who are dedicated to dissecting dirty movies, one podcast episode at a time.
Rachel Napoleon and Laura Ramadei have a simple but noble goal with their Girls on Porn podcast: researching and reviewing pornography with the specific aim of enhancing one’s “spank bank.”
Rachel and Laura ended up with a porn podcast organically, due to their shared fondness for and fascination with the X-rated realm. About 15 years ago, they became acquainted in a New York City acting class, but they really bonded at Brooklyn parties after discovering they each loved smut—and loved talking about it.
“Our friendship deepened when we realized how sex-positive we both were, how important we thought it was to destigmatize erotica and porn, so it really was sex that brought us together,” Rachel says.
Laura believes one incident in particular cemented the girls’ relationship: “I walked into a party and Rachel ran up to me and screamed, ‘I pegged!’”
It was Laura’s idea to start a podcast, when space opened up in Rachel’s apartment and the two decided to become roommates. Even before she moved in though, Laura could already imagine how many filthy conversations she and Rachel were about to have in their new home. “If those walls could talk…,” Laura muses.
Laura figured there was surely an audience eager to listen to such dirty tête-à-têtes, but she also saw the humor in the idea of she and her friend going deep into the merits (or lack thereof) of various pornographic films.
