Fucking Scared

Pregnancy! Disease! Performance anxiety! Poop stuff! Examining our biggest sex fears.

Having sex is one of the most vulnerable things a person can experience. You’re exchanging fluids. You’re naked. They’re naked. And while you should be focused on having fun, sometimes the only thing that people can think about in the midst of boning is, “What if Jesus is watching?”

While not everyone is worried about religious shame while slapping sloppies, people in general experience a wide variety of anxieties about sex. The most common fears are judgments of our bodies, poor performance, contracting a sexual disease and unexpected pregnancy, according to Online Doctor Superdrug, a UK-based wellness company that polled 1,000 Americans and Europeans about their anxieties around banging.

Sex fears can be as minimal as a brief thought that ultimately does nothing to change our behavior, or an overwhelming issue that can weigh someone down enough to make them abstain for years. HUSTLERMagazine.com interviewed several individuals who were courageous enough to answer the question, “What scares you the most about sex?”

Tim Isenman, an engineer in Tokyo, tells HUSTLERMagazine.com that he “got an unhealthy dose of paranoia from my grandma,” which caused him to be nervous about STDs, condom breakage and his performance. To help ease his first two fears, Isenman practices safe sex and brings his own condoms. Concerns about his performance, on the other hand, have been harder to shake and tend to spring up on him regularly.

“The performance problem happens almost every time I’m really into someone, so much so that it’s almost a litmus test for my feelings for them,” Tim tells HUSTLERMagazine.com. “If I can last all night and bring us both to climax, am I really that into her? Or is it just lust? Every time I’ve been emotionally, intellectually and physically into someone, I end up psyching myself out and end up only lasting long enough for her (if we’re lucky), but [I] have to tap myself out afterward.”
