Brushing Up on Going Down: The Pros’ Guide to Eating Pussy

Not sure that you’re giving your partner the best when you’re giving her head? Don’t worry—these expert tips from XXX stars will help you lick those insecurities in a hurry.

For decades, the wage gap between men and women has been a matter of fierce debate. But there’s another, equally important disparity between the genders that’s rarely discussed, at least in public among polite society: the oral sex gap.

It’s a scientific fact that penises are orally serviced more often than vaginas. In a 2016 study published by The Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality, 59% of female study participants reported giving oral sex to their partner during their most recent sexual encounter, compared to 52% of male participants. Meanwhile, 63% of male participants reported receiving oral sex during their last lay, compared to a mere 44% of female participants.

What’s to blame for this uneven playing field in the game of going down? Basic male laziness and selfishness are possible culprits, but there are plenty of other potential explanations. Perhaps it’s a general societal squeamishness about cunnilingus. Or an insecurity on the part of men about whether they know what they’re doing down there.

Whatever the reason, those looking to crack the cunnilingus code have numerous online guides at their disposal. Some offer decent general advice, such as not diving into your partner’s vulva without building up to it. Others are incredibly detailed and complex, which could make the job of mastering cunnilingus seem even more intimidating. And different guides sometimes contradict each other—one might recommend focusing almost entirely on the clit, while the next might suggest never putting direct stimulation on the little man in the boat. How is the novice labia-lapper to know how much of this advice is universal, how much of it might just apply in certain situations but not others, and how much of it is actually batshit insane in most instances?

In an effort to help those who might be unsure about how to go about eating someone out, and those who have some idea of what they’re doing but want to improve their game, we recently reached out to a handful of porn stars to get their hints and tips. Now, it’s worth noting that porn isn’t always the most trustworthy guide to eating pussy. It often involves acts that look good on camera, but are generally unappealing out in the field—acts such as “motor-boating a pussy, slapping the clit and finger-blasting with super long, acrylic nails” as XXX performer Larkin Love notes. But porn stars, like most sex workers, have amassed more experience and swapped more stories about how to navigate cunnilingus, on screen and in real life, than many people ever will.
