Are the powers that be mounting a campaign against casual sex? We examine the dark side of the Religious Right’s current push for procreation.
Could we be facing a religious crusade against bumping uglies outside the constraints of a relationship? Oh god, we hope not—but there have been some troubling indications lately.
Unquestionably, Donald Trump, in his capacity as President, has vowed to resurrect religion in America. “From the earliest days of our republic, faith in God has always been the ultimate source of the strength that beats in the hearts of our nation,” Trump said during the National Prayer Breakfast in February, perhaps forgetting that our nation’s Founding Fathers never intended for God to be part of the U.S. government. In May, Trump doubled down on the theocracy talk, shunting aside the separation of church and state, a cornerstone of U.S. democracy. “They say separation between church and state … I said, ‘All right, let’s forget about that for one time,’” he said, on the same day he announced an executive order to establish a commission on religious liberty. He added that“we’re bringing religion back to our country, and it’s a big deal.” Well, Jesus Christ—fuck me!
“I’m shocked by how far Trump is taking this. I believe in limited government, and that includes staying out of decisions between a woman and her doctor.”
