August 8, 2000 was just another balmy Southern California night at the old ball-yard as the Los Angeles Dodgers met the Chicago Cubs in a game that’s now mostly forgotten.
Prior to August 8, it wasn’t unusual for fans to kiss in the stands at games. Big-screen “kiss cams” had been around for a while and nobody seemed to have much of a problem with them. Couples kissing for the cameras were often the highlight of seventh-inning stretches around the big leagues.
But that night at Dodger Stadium, a kiss caused some people to, as the kids say, “Lose they damn minds.”
Meredith Kott—who had also become known by that time as porn star Nico Treasures—and Danielle Goldey, a lesbian couple, attended the game with a group of straight friends. “We were on the verge of breaking up,” remembered Goldey in a recent interview with HUSTLERMagazine.com. “But the pitcher hit a home run—pretty rare—and we kissed. Someone in our group said, ‘If he hits another, you’ll get married.’ He hit another, and we kissed again: ‘We’re getting married!’” (Alas, it wasn’t to be, as Goldey and Kott have since broken up.)
“People booed the guards,” recalled Goldey. “I remember some guy saying, ‘I’m a lawyer. Call me!’”
