2019: The Year in Sex and Porn

’Tis the season for sober reflection and musings on the year that was … but frankly we’ve had just about enough of Trump, Taylor Swift and the impending ecological apocalypse. In assessing what truly mattered in 2019, we instead turn our attention to the incredible, beautiful and resilient women of adult entertainmentfor theirs are the only opinions that matter.

The perpetually upbeat and irrevocably intelligent megababe sounds off on a sea change in adult entertainment while lauding the explosion in popularity of DIY content platforms such as OnlyFans.

What do you feel were the biggest trends and moments of 2019?

My 2019 was both epic and defined by change. About a year and a half ago I went from making almost all of my money from performing, and now I’m splitting between my own content and performing … so that’s a big difference. Societally, the #MeToo movement and increased focus on appropriate workplace behavior, and how that mainstream movement has significantly affected porn—that’s an interesting topic.

Let’s start with content. Performers are now creators. How has that changed the game?

The big changes in adult entertainment started when it first went to home usage. Then the internet happened. Now, I feel like we’re potentially seeing a third evolution, which is autonomous content: performers making and monetizing content. Before, the way you made money was getting hired by production companies. So basically your job was making sure you were well-likedby directors, companies, etc. Then the internet came and analytics happened, and then your job was to be good at social media. And now our job as content creators straddles the fence of art and business.

For me it’s easy, but I think for a lot of people it becomes challenging. I feel like a bit of a nerd in this artistic field; I feel like my real skills have always been in organization. So to have my two skill sets be equally important, I feel like I hit the lottery! This moment was made for me. I’ve had regular jobs, so I can sell, advertise, and monetize the content—bring it on!
