Natasha Leggero dresses like a queen and curses like a sailor. Known for a stand-up routine that is both debonair and dirty, Leggero started her acting career with roles on many of TV’s modern comedy classics, including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (credited as “Stripper #1”), Key & Peele (“White Woman #2”), and Reno 911! (both “Pregnant Girlfriend” and “Pantsless Hooker”). She’s proven to be a worthy adversary to Andrew Dice Clay as his girlfriend on Showtime’s Dice, and now plays Lillian Bellacourt on Another Period, the Comedy Central raunchfest Leggero cocreated. The very pregnant, very comely comic recently took the time to talk to HUSTLER about the delightfully vulgar Lillian, the Gilded Age of incestuous billionaires and how she was duped into watching James Toback fuck a tree.
HUSTLER: Most stand-up comics look like schlubs, but you take the stage in high heels, cocktail dresses, opera gloves, the occasional fur coat. How did you decide to take on that persona?
NATASHA LEGGERO: I don’t know. I’ve always dressed up my whole life. Then, going onstage, I remember I read a quote where someone said, “If you dress like the audience, you become one of them.” I didn’t want that. The thing is, you’re putting on a show. So it’s just kind of an old-fashioned thing that I do. Also, I found that when I started really dressing up onstage, I could get away with a little more, because people were like, “Oh, okay, it’s a character…”
Speaking of getting away with things, I saw you ask a woman in the audience why she didn’t have kids. “What? You don’t want to turn your pussy into Mount St. Helens?”
[Laughs.] It’s a character!
A wonderfully dirty character.
