Sexologist. Professor. Podcast host. Author. Television personality. This modern-day Renaissance woman does it all, and is working hard to help you make the most of your sex life.
Dr. Tara Suwinyattichaiporn didn’t set out to be a renowned academic on topics of carnality and a media icon of sexual education and enlightenment. In fact, given her background, the modern-day Renaissance woman—certified sexologist, professor of sexual communication at Cal State Fullerton, podcast host, author and reality TV personality—might seem like an unlikely candidate for the role.
Raised in what she describes as a “sexually repressed” family in largely Buddhist, buttoned-up Thailand, Suwinyattichaiporn attended an all-girls school in Bangkok—perhaps not the first environment that comes to mind when it comes to developing an expertise in all matters sexual.

However, as John Lennon once noted, life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans, and fate had its own intentions for the good doctor-to-be. Suwinyattichaiporn’s career path took a sharp, sex-centric turn when she moved to the United States to finish her master’s degree and Ph.D. She’d initially been studying human communication, with her first published study focused on successful strategies to maintain a long-distance relationship. But human communication is often about sexual communication, with most people around the globe (regardless of race, gender, income, politics, etc.) experiencing some kind of sexual issue in their lifetime.
“I thought I should be the solution for a universal problem, and that’s when I started focusing on sexuality and sexual communication,” she recalls.
