Here Come the Sons

With their take-no-prisoners sound and boundary-busting approach, Rival Sons are leading the charge in bringing rock ‘n’ roll to thrilling new heights.

Straight outta Long Beach comes the band Rival Sons. The twice-Grammy-nominated group comes from the same coastal community as both Snoop Dogg and Sublime, but unlike those artists from the LBC, Rival Sons have a distinctively different sound, bringing the heat with pure, old-school, classic rock ’n’ roll! For ten-plus years, they have been delivering their real-deal sound to audiences worldwide through exhaustive touring and a half-dozen brilliant albums.

HUSTLERMagazine.com caught up with Rival Sons singer Jay Buchanan to discuss their upcoming tour—during which they’ll play their breakthrough album Pressure & Time in its entirety—plus the recording of the group’s new album and the art of avoiding advances from drunk, half-naked wannabe groupies.

HUSTLERMagazine.com: Are you okay being interviewed by us?

Jay Buchanan: Of course I am okay being interviewed by HUSTLER. (Laughs.) If someone has a problem with HUSTLER Magazine, then they have bigger problems, really.

Do you remember the first time you ever saw a HUSTLER?

Yes, of course I do. Most of my encounters with HUSTLER Magazine were when I wasn’t of age, and they were either stolen or found, somewhat trashed copies. I was walking home with friends up some railroad tracks and we discovered a stash in a field under a piece of beaten-up plywood. That first look inside was very eye-opening to me.
