The veteran musician discusses honoring rock ‘n’ roll’s orgiastic legacy with his new album.
Michael Des Barres is a rock ‘n’ roll chameleon. As leader of the glam-rock bands Detective and Silverhead, he slithered through the music scene, where he met and married legendary groupie queen Miss Pamela. A twist of fate in the 1980s found him fronting the supergroup The Power Station for a tour and onstage at Live Aid. Away from music, Des Barres is an actor of note, having appeared in over 100 TV shows and films ranging from To Sir, With Love to MacGyver and more.
This year sees Des Barres returning to his roots in a sense, releasing an album of covers of his favorite rock songs of the ’70s called It’s Only Rock ’n’ Roll. HUSTLERMagazine.com recently caught up with Des Barres to discuss sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll.
HUSTLERMagazine.com: Are you home here in California?
Michael Des Barres: No, I’m doing a photo session for the cover of your magazine.
No, you’re not.
Yes, I am. (Laughs.) No. Just Kidding.
