While many people consider busting a nut to be the best part of sex, fans of edging feel that better things come to those who wait. We explore the practice of putting off the Big O in pursuit of a more intense climax.
Busting a nut is usually considered the best part of sex, but for those who practice “edging,” delaying that release is a much more satisfying option.
In this age of instant gratification and jam-packed schedules, holding off on the Big O might seem counterintuitive. However, edging advocates say that it can lead to more powerful climaxes and add a kinky twist to bedroom play.
In essence, edging involves letting oneself approach but not achieve sexual release, often multiple times, before actually allowing climax to occur.
“Edging often refers to working yourself up right to the brink of orgasm several times without allowing yourself to go over the edge and actually climax,” Jess O’Reilly, PhD, host of the Sex With Dr. Jess podcast, explains.
Edging can be done alone or with a partner. For Daniel Sliwa, 27, a creative director in Los Angeles, it’s a fun part of power play in the bedroom.
“Edging can be intense if you’re in the middle of rough sex, and your partner jumps off when you’re close, pinches your shaft with one hand and presses down on your balls with the other, demanding that you hold your load until next time,” Daniel says.
