Dating Rules Do-Over

For the younger generation, it’s a whole new dating world, with more women taking charge (and picking up the check). But is there something to be said for the old-school rules of courtship?

When it comes to dating, anything goes these days. Dinner and a movie. Drinks at a bar. Netflix and chill. A shopping spree at a HUSTLER Hollywood store?

While the activity can vary, dating tends to go like this for traditionalists: the guy asks out the girl, the guy pays for everything and the guy initiates the lovin’ by the end of the date. However, this male-dominated mating ritual may soon go extinct. According to a new study from researchers in Kansas, young people are opting for something new.

University of Kansas researchers surveyed 20,000 heterosexual college students and asked them to describe their perfect date. The study found that only 36 percent of those polled described a date as involving the man initiating and paying. Basically, it seemed that the young generation prefers equality among the sexes, and this includes women increasing the initiation of nookie.

The study’s findings were echoed by the young people we spoke to, when asked about their dating habits.

“I’m queer, but I dated men a few years ago,” Bethany,* 21, tells HUSTLERMagazine.com. “When I dated dudes, we asked each other out, and we took turns paying. I knew about traditional dating from my parents, but I didn’t do it myself. I guess I prefer a more casual way to get to know people.”
