With COVID-19 restrictions lifting, chances are you’ll be hitting the online dating trail again soon. Here are some essential tips for clearing a path to success.
COVID-19 restrictions are easing, folks are getting vaccinated and the weather is warming up…all perfect conditions to get back into the online dating game. And if you want to win that game, you’d better make sure that your dating profile is close to perfect too.
You know what makes you great, but do you know how to make that translate to the tiny screen in her pocket? In a sea of men looking for their partners in crime, how can you stand out enough to get that coveted right swipe? (First tip: Stop saying you’re looking for your partner in crime, unless you’re planning to rob a bank on the first date.) Writing a dating profile and sending messages are undeniably challenging tasks, but with a few pointers and some deep breaths, you’ll be wishing you hadn’t agreed to a Sunday morning hike in no time!
Let’s start with the photos that you use on your profile. Potential dates want to see you as you will hopefully be showing up to meet them, so make sure your pictures are clear, undoctored and current. If you’ve recently shaved your beard or grown out your hair, snap a pic of your latest look; even better if it’s during golden hour. (That’s the period shortly after sunrise or shortly before sunset—aka, nature’s filter.) Group shots get mixed reviews (“Which one is he?!”), but if you want to use one to communicate that you have friends, don’t make it your main pic, and use a simple caption like “I’m the second guy from the right” to clear up any confusion.
Want to post a picture of you and your baby nephew to show how nurturing you are? “Hanging with my nephew” is a good caption. “NOT MY KID!!!” is … a lot.
