Blood Sugar, Sex Magic?

Looking to keep your boner in its full upright position? Try cutting back on the sweets.

No one warns men when they’re young and virile—when a strong breeze or a passing thought could launch a full-blown erection—that one day, that same proud soldier might turn into a limp slab of man-meat. We head into adulthood assuming we’ll eventually keel over from heart disease or cancer, but at least we’ll have the comforting consistency of a reliable hard-on to see us through. Then, cruelly and without warning, we realize that erections are just as fickle as life itself. Sure, by now most guys accept that age brings its challenges, including the occasional need to call in the assistance of a little blue pill off the bench—but what if we told you that keeping your dick in the game might be less about getting some sugar and more about staying away from it?

It turns out that your sweet tooth might be the biggest cock-blocker of all. A new study presented at the Endocrine Society’s annual gathering in 2025 found that increasing blood sugar was more likely to be a boner killer than commonly blamed culprits, like age or even declining testosterone levels. Researchers assert that, while hormones stayed in normal range, guys with mildly higher glucose levels got a little wobbly in the wood. In other words, those late-night cookies and ice cream binges might be doing more damage to your pecker than your waistline.

And that dire theory might be enough to get guys to close that freezer door. “I can deal with being fat,” Kyle, 34, tells HUSTLERMagazine.com, “but not if it’s stopping me from sex.”
