From giving rescue dogs in their golden years the best life possible to even being a taxi for chickens, the queer professional Dominant and hardcore animal advocate has a heart so big and rare in this world. We definitely needed to learn more about Alice!
HUSTLERMagazine.com: How long have you been involved with rescuing and rehabilitating animals?
Alice Skary: My first opportunity was volunteering with a wildlife rehabilitation center for birds of prey when I was just five years old. I couldn’t volunteer alone of course, but my parents would do a shift and take me. I did a lot of cleaning, a lot of food prep and caring for the prey animals raised to feed the birds (mice, mostly), and once I got to help with the physical therapy of a tiny, tiny screech owl. I wore leather gloves that were waaayyy too big for me, and myself and another volunteer stood at opposite sides of the room. We would call the owl to fly to us and then give him a treat for flying, building up his stamina, as he was just done healing up from an awful broken wing! He was the only bird there small enough for me to handle safely on my own at my very small size. At 13, I started volunteer dog-walking at my local municipal shelter to try to give love and care to the animals that were by-and-large due to be euthanized. I wanted them all to have love & affection before their last day.
