A Manwhore’s Journey

How comedian Billy Procida turned the “problem” of women just wanting to sleep with him into a sex-positive podcast odyssey

In terms of sex, Billy Procida is no “unicorn” (a solo woman who plays with couples). When it comes to sex podcasting, however, the man behind The Manwhore Podcast is nearly that unique, almost a rare and magical creature in his own right.

“I do think I’m one of the very few, if not the only, sex-positive straight white men doing this,” Procida says.

“I had this really weird problem where women would sleep with me but wouldn’t date me…they were always like, ‘No, thanks, but please do come to this gangbang with me…’”

As unusual as it might be for someone of his demographic to be hosting a popular show about sexuality, the origin story behind Procida’s podcast is equally unique. In his early 20s, Procida was a stand-up comic in New York City who wasn’t getting what he wanted from women: While Billy was looking for love, all he seemed to be able to do was get laid instead.

“I had this really weird problem where women would sleep with me but wouldn’t date me, and I wanted to find out why,” Procida explains. “It was very frustrating because I really wanted someone to love me back, but they were always like, ‘No, thanks, but please do come to this gangbang with me…’”

While this “problem” would likely send most men searching for a microscopic violin to play for Procida, it did prompt a bold new venture for the funnyman.
