Rock ‘n’ roll power couple Carla Harvey and Charlie Benante join musical forces to unleash a ferocious new collection of songs.
Carla Harvey is the brunette former lead singer of The Butcher Babies and a touring member of Lords of Acid. Charlie Benanate is the longtime drummer for Anthrax and touring drummer for Pantera. Together, the real-life couple make beautiful music together. Literally. They are about to release a self-titled EP under the collaborative name The Violent Hour. And it fucking rocks! We caught up with Carla and Charlie to discuss the new music, exiting Butcher Babies and Anthrax’s long-awaited new album.
HUSTLERMagazine.com: Carla, Why did you decide to leave The Butcher Babies?
Carla Harvey: It was 15 years of brutal and relentless touring, ten months out of every year. My mindset changed. I wanted to do things differently. I felt like things needed to change to keep going. At the end there were only three of us left from the original band, and I was in a band with a couple who wanted to be out there touring all the time. It wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life anymore. I felt pushed out at first.
Charlie, are you still on tour with Pantera?
Charlie Benante: We just played our last European show with Metallica and the Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath show in England. Later this summer, Pantera will do a U.S. tour. The best part is that on this next run we are going to play additional songs we haven’t played before.
Carla, what is it like to tour with Lords of Acid?
