The band behind the hit “Turning Japanese” returns with a blistering new album, Wasp in a Jar.
“Turning Japanese” may or may not be the greatest song ever written about masturbation. It all depends on who you ask. During a stop on their recent U.S. tour, we asked The Vapors themselves. We caught up with the band’s founders Dave Fenton and Steve Smith backstage in Boston to discuss their real opinion on being called a “one-hit wonder,” their brilliant new album Wasp in a Jar and the true meaning behind their best-known song.
Are you okay being interviewed by HUSTLER?
Steve: Our publicist assured us this will be about music and not tits and ass. Knowing that, we are more than okay to do this.
Dave: Yes. Indeed.
You know that, somewhere on the page near the interview, there will be a naked woman?
Steve: Then I’ll zoom in on that part of the page and have a look. (Laughs.)
