Lead singer Astrid McDonald on growing up with rock-star parents, the secret to survival on the road and her band’s ferocious new album.
Astrid McDonald was literally born into rock and roll. Her mom is Charlotte Caffey, guitarist for The Go-Go’s. Her dad is Jeff McDonald from Redd Kross. (Her uncle Steve also plays in Redd Kross and The Melvins.) It only seems natural that she would follow in the family business and start a band, and that band is the punk combo known as The Side Eyes.
HUSTLERMagazine.com caught up with Astrid to discuss her band’s just-released second album What’s Your Problem?, her famous folks, her frequent giving of the side-eye and how a steady diet of fast food and candy on the road keeps her going.

What is the strangest gift a fan of your band has ever given you?
One time a person sent us a message on Instagram asking if he could bring us a cake to our show that night made with his “special secret recipe.” I’m glad he didn’t!
