Skye Sweetnam went from pop princess and Britney Spears tourmate to fierce metal frontwoman. Now she’s diving into the Neon Void and taking listeners along for the ride.
Once upon a time, Skye Sweetnam was a teenage pop star singing about boys and touring with Britney Spears. After two albums, Skye saw there was a new musical side emerging from her creative essence. In 2011, she left her bubblegum pop persona behind and embraced her dark side, forming the metal band Sumo Cyco, even creating an onstage persona and name, Sever, to further announce she was moving forward.
Three blistering albums followed, alongside tours with some of the genre’s most aggressive artists. On the eve of the release of Sumo Cyco’s fourth album Neon Void, HUSTLERMagazine.com caught up with Skye to discuss finding power in her music, touring with Britney, creating her latest record and the creepiest gift she ever got from a fan.

HUSTLERMagazine.com: What is your attitude toward adult entertainment?
Skye Sweetnam: I’m a sex-positive person. I’m all about adults having choices over what they want to consume. If people want to pick up HUSTLER and look at hot pics, they can do that.
What made you shift from pop music to hard metal?
I think it was the music industry that made me angry enough to change genres. When I started writing music, I was young. Like everyone, you grow up, and being stuck performing those types of songs didn’t feel true to the woman I was becoming. There was more exploration into different types of music and songwriting that I wanted to do as I grew older.
