Kid Congo Powers: “Music Is the Vice”

The legendary guitarist talks about surviving addiction, embracing sleaze and his band’s new album, That Delicious Vice.

Kid Congo Powers is the king of the underground scene. The guitarist/songwriter and singer made his bones as a member of The Gun Club, The Cramps and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds—an impressive résumé to be sure. He could easily rest on his laurels. But that isn’t Kid.

The music legend’s latest release is a new album from Kid Congo and The Pink Monkey Birds, a band he’s fronted since 2006. HUSTLERMagazine.com caught up with Kid Congo Powers from his desert hideaway in Arizona to discuss life in The Gun Club, The Cramps and The Bad Seeds, as well as his new album, That Delicious Vice.

HUSTLERMagazine.com: Where are you today?

Kid Congo Powers: I’m in Tucson, Arizona, where I’ve been for about five years.
