HUSTLER Magazine is celebrating 48 wonderful years and the positive growth we’ve seen in the XXX industry through these years. Adult entertainment has matured to new heights of professionalism. Today’s performers take pride in their brand and control of their careers. They connect with fans and create and market their own content. We are proud that Larry Flynt and HUSTLER have played roles in advancing the ten icons featured in this Special Anniversary Edition and the industry as a whole.
But opposition to respect and freedom—both in the industry and the country—continues. Laws like SESTA/FOSTA (Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act/Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act) have, under the guise of fighting trafficking, instead placed sex workers in harm’s way by eradicating platforms where they could promote their services and screen clients. Freedom of speech is still fragile—in fact, book bans are on the rise, and 35 states are considering 137 proposals that will police teachers in the classroom. And lamentably, as of press time, the Supreme Court has signaled their intent to burn 50 years of precedent to the ground and overturn Roe v. Wade, eliminating a woman’s reproductive rights in the majority of states.
