Bare bills itself as “a vignette collection of women who are beautiful without makeup, portrayed in vulnerable settings and shot entirely in natural light.” That summation pretty much defines this offering, which benefits from director Kayden Kross’s tasteful embellishments but still keeps things sufficiently raw. It’s a bold experiment by Kross, to strip away the garish layers that tart up the typical porn production while trying to put across something that’s artfully wrought—and hot!—but it works in this case. It certainly doesn’t hurt that this tastefully unvarnished, all-female effort is a DVD that guys can slip into the player without horrifying their significant others. Plus, it might serve as a tutorial on what women really want. Shyla Jennings and Sadie Blake—the latter of whom bears a more-than-passing resemblance to Kendall Jenner—play a couple of clam-diggers who reconcile after a raging argument. In a rousing bout of make-up sex, they rub their clits together so intensely, it’s a shock that sparks don’t shoot out of their nethers from the friction. Jennings and Blake proceed to deliver a master class in pussy-eating; guys, make sure to take notes with your free hand. This is a slow, steady buildup, rather than the hollow, lingerie-clad tease that precedes most stick-it-in-her offerings. To paraphrase an old deodorant ad, Bare is made by women, but strong enough for a man. —P.D.R.
