Asshole of the Month: Sarah Hukabee Sanders

This past February, President Biden delivered what most unbiased observers praised as one of the best State of the Union (SOTU) addresses ever—a masterful performance by a veteran politician at the top of his game. His alleged senility was proven to be nothing more than partisan bullshit as he eloquently touted the many accomplishments of his administration for over an hour, from passing the desperately needed infrastructure plan to a booming economy, with an unemployment rate of 3.4% in January, the lowest rate since May 1969.

The whole speech struck an amiable note of bipartisan cooperation to solve our many problems, an approach most Americans yearn for. It was so good that even Donald Trump ditched his usual snark attack and praised it in a Truth Social post: “I disagree with him on most of his policies, but he put into words what he felt, and he ended up the evening far stronger than he began. Give him credit for that.”

It was left to Trump’s former press secretary—now the newly minted governor of Arkansas—Sarah Huckabee Sanders, to try spinning the silk purse into a sow’s ear with her Republican response. It was painfully obvious that she hadn’t listened to much, if any of Biden’s speech. In contrast to Biden’s conciliatory tone, she kicked it off with a nasty insult, playing the mother card: “Being a mom to three young children taught me not to believe every story I hear. So forgive me for not believing much of anything I heard tonight from President Biden.”
