Asshole of the Month: Donald Trump
The mop-haired, B-movie monster from Mar-a-Lago is back, terrorizing the nation with the very real prospect of another gut-wrenching four years in the White House. WTF?! In a 2024 survey of scholars and social science experts, the American Political Science Association rated all U.S. Presidents with a 0–100 score, and Donald Trump came in dead last with a 10.92 rating, just behind James Buchanan, who presided before the beginning of the Civil War. As we count down to the fateful day in November, many worry that another bloody conflict may be in the offing, because one thing is certain: Whatever the outcome, Donald Trump is not going to concede defeat. Again.
Recall that he would not even commit to accepting the outcome of the 2016 election before it happened. He won that year due to our crazy Electoral College, but lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by nearly 2.9 million votes. He wasn’t a sore loser then, but a sore winner, claiming that he had also won the popular vote. “if you deduct the millions who voted illegally.” Neither he nor any of his sycophants ever presented a scintilla of evidence to back this up.
And we all still cringe over the violent, shameful shitshow on January 6, 2021, based on more phantasmagoric crap about supposed electoral fraud. While Congress was certifying the election that day, Trump held a nearby rally urging his troopers to “take back our country” and “fight like hell”— virtual marching orders to storm the Capitol. “This in and of itself puts Trump in the lowest circle of hell among America’s Presidents,” states constitutional scholar Akhil Amar of Yale Law School. Trump’s legal eaglets filed 62 lawsuits in nine states and the District of Columbia challenging the results. Almost all of these were dismissed for lack of standing or lack of evidence, including 30 rejected after a judicial hearing on the merits. Several of these judges were appointed by Trump and presumably favorable to him. Over 140 police officers were injured in that invasion, including Michael Fanone, who suffered a heart attack after being tased by MAGA rebels. “This is who Donald Trump is,” said Mr. Fanone, “a sick motherfucker who fetishizes violence committed on his behalf.”
