GOP Fails Congress…and America

Here’s an idea: The next time the GOP paralyzes government and the country, their representatives do not get paid. When Republican House representatives take three whole weeks to elect a speaker, they should forfeit three weeks of the $174,000-plus annual salary Americans, their bosses, pay them. This past October alone, that would have saved taxpayers millions.

And at the end of three weeks of floundering, what did the GOP have to show for it? Mike Johnson from Louisiana was finally selected—with Donald Trump’s stamp of approval of course. This is clearly not your father’s Republican Party, where politicians were fiscal and social conservatives, but believed wholeheartedly in the bedrock of our government: democracy, the peaceful transfer of power and the separation of church and state.
