Fight Fire With Fire!
In normal times, sane times, I would never consider advocating for gerrymandering: redrawing electoral district boundaries with the intention of political gain. But let’s be clear. We did not start this fight, and if we want to have a prayer of ending it, we must fight fire with fire.
Congressional maps are generally only redrawn after the U.S. Census once a decade. But in July 2025 a power-hungry Trump looked at his party’s sinking poll numbers and demanded that Texas gerrymander five new Republican-leaning districts to bolster his chances of holding on to the House in 2026. In August the new Texas congressional map was signed by Governor Abbott. Since then four more GOP states have revised their maps with the intention of stealing seats, and several additional states are eyeing similar moves, with Indiana being the lone GOP state thus far to resist the President’s pressure and vote against his wishes. There is no doubt that political and financial retaliation for Indiana will follow—threats have already been made to pull federal funding from the state and punish anyone who voted against a new map.
