This pandemic shit is hard enough as it is without government, law enforcement, landlords and the rest of the oppressors making it even tougher for hardworking people to get through the day. And no one is getting the short end of the COVID stick quite like sex workers, locked in a vicious catch-22 that threatens their safety, health and income stability.
We look to Canada for ameliorative measures, where sex workers, advocates and Amnesty International have joined forces to lobby the federal government for a moratorium on enforcing sex work laws during the pandemic. The CBC (sort of like NPR, but somehow more boring) interviewed members of this united front, who hit the streets of Toronto in July to remind lawmakers that sex work is work, so either help or get out of the way.
