Teresa Lo is the shit. The beloved HUSTLER contributor of nine years and stellar stand-up comedian is one of our favorite people on the planet, no cap. Now, on top of running her own company and cohosting the amazing Sex & Boba podcast, Lo is well on her way to becoming the next Kathryn Bigelow.
Lo put her film school skills to work with her recent directorial debut, Breaking the Fourth Wall. The documentary explores Lo’s experiences in stand-up and how comedy can be raunchy and fun without resorting to exclusion.
“It’s about how Joe Manente, the owner of the Fourth Wall Comedy Studio in L.A., started an open mic night that changed the way Los Angeles comedians performed,” she says. “I was new to stand-up at the time, so I was terrible and shy. This guy saw me perform, then he got onstage and said mean and racist ‘jokes’ about me. Joe and the other comedians there ended up roasting him for being a dick to me, and I never forgot their kindness.”
