HUSTLERMagazine.com: You’re coming up on 20 years in the adult industry—congratulations! When you started out, did you see yourself being in the biz for this long?
Wendy Williams: I had no idea I would last a few months, let alone 20 years. I started dabbling in the adult industry in the late ’90s when there was [a] very limited [number of] trans women appearing in the industry. After moving to Ft. Lauderdale for an AOL relationship (yes I said AOL), I needed money to move and start my transition, so I reached out to one of the only trans companies (Grooby) and got booked for a site that was called ShemaleYum then. It was so long ago that video [format] hadn’t really taken off for companies, and I was paid to do three photo sets that went live in June of 2002. I had always been so awkward about my body and sexuality as a guy that once I started dressing and living as Wendy full-time it became empowering that people found me attractive, and I could finally embrace my sexuality.
What do you feel has led to you having such a long and prosperous adult career?
